Deadpool & Wolverine Slash Records | Weekend of July 26th, 2024
The weekend of July 26th was an absolutely incredible weekend for the box office. The greatly-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine became the highest performing R-rated movie opening in history, earning over $211M and claiming 76% of all ticket sales. The title was projected to do $160M, so exceeding projections by $51M was quite impressive.
Deadpool & Wolverine led the box office to the highest grossing weekend since Barbie & Oppenheimer and the only reason #Barbenheimer weekend did better was due to two big movies. Barbie did $162M on its opening weekend, nearly $50M less than the superhero blockbuster.
Deadpool & Wolverine also greatly surpassed Deadpool 2's weekend release in 2018. It's great to see movies thriving in such a big way!
