Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Mufasa Claim 69% of All Ticket Sales | Weekend of December 20th, 2024
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raced to the top of the box office this weekend, capturing 46% of ticket sales and earned $61M (42% of revenue). Along with Mufasa: The Lion King, the two new releases accounted for 69% of all admissions, demonstrating the power of fresh content to draw audiences to theaters.
Despite the strong performance of the top two films, Wicked: Part One and Moana 2 continue to hold their own, indicating the staying power of these titles. Notably, Red One continues to generate over $1M at the box office despite being available for free to Amazon Prime subscribers.
With the year coming to a close, the box office shows a strong recovery from the pandemic. Early predictions for 2025 forecast domestic box office revenue nearing $10B, with global revenue reaching $30B.
