Family animation and horror genres prove major drivers for moviegoer attendance as box office does over $100M for the sixth weekend in a row.

The weekend of July 12th was another box office success as Despicable Me 4 and the premiering Longlegs steered the box office to over $100M for the sixth weekend in a row.

The fourth installment of Despicable Me stayed at the top of our ranker in its second weekend, claiming 36% of all ticket sales and earning over $43M.

Longlegs, Nicholas Cage's latest horror film, claimed 20% of all tickets and earned over $22M. The film received a positive critic score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It was certainly a weekend for animation and horror, as Inside Out 2 claimed 16% of all tickets while A Quiet Place: Day One claimed 8%. Horror and family animation are well-known to be strong box office performers and this weekend was certainly further proof.

The romantic comedy Fly Me to the Moon premiered over the weekend of July 12th and earned a highly favorable audience score of 90%, while earning nearly $10M.
