Alien: Romulus Tears Through the Box Office Continuum | Weekend of August 16th, 2024

The ninth installment of Alien propels the box office to yet another $100M+ weekend!

We're starting to sound like a broken record as the weekend of August 16th was yet another fantastic one for the box office.

The ninth installment of the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, debuted and earned over $42M while claiming 27% of all ticket sales. The movie also performed well with critics and audiences alike, scoring an 80% critic score and 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Close behind was Deadpool & Wolverine. In its fourth weekend, the superhero blockbuster claimed 20% of all ticket sales and earned over $30M.

The Reynolds/Lively home must be quite proud, considering Blake Lively's movie, It Ends With Us, also performed well, landing just below Deadpool & Wolverine on our weekly ranker. The romantic drama earned over $23M and claimed 16% of all ticket sales in its second weekend.

The Coraline re-release impressed as well, earning over $10M despite its original release in 2009 earning just shy of $17M. This is proof that intellectual property can gain traction far beyond its original release.
